At Parkside Dental Surgery, we have a CEREC machine on site, a high-tech dental device that enables us to create and place a perfectly fitting dental crowns and bridges in one short visit.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cover or cap, generally made of ceramic or porcelain and precious metal that is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size and strength.
Crowns are often placed on teeth that have broken, had root canal treatment, are structurally compromised or are misshaped and discoloured. Crowns are made to match your other teeth so that no one notices it is not a natural tooth.
Dental bridges, as the name suggests, bridge the gap between one tooth and another. Bridges are usually 3-4 teeth in length: false teeth in the middle, with either end of the bridge supported by an existing tooth, which is usually crowned. An alternative to a bridge are dental implants.
Traditionally, the process of getting a dental crown or bridge requires 2 visits to the dentist and can take up to 2 weeks. The CEREC machine makes it possible to have either treatment completed in just one visit. It uses CAD/CAM (computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing) technology to scan, design and mill the patient’s crown on site, and the resulting crown will be a perfect fit.
If your current dentist isn’t doing one-visit crowns, why not make an appointment with Parkside Dental?
